Mobile Tech Taking Over Brazil for the Olympics

With the Olympics right around the corner, a variety of groups and companies have geared up to take advantage of the available mobile app opportunities. We felt it was important to highlight some of the diverse ways in which developers are utilizing mobile apps. Among the reasons for mobile app utilization are improved communication, health, and travel. Take Rio de Janeiro’s Galeão International Airport for instance: they just launched a mobile app, and over 3,000 beacons, to assist the projected 90,000 daily travelers navigate the 100,000 square foot facility.

The Brazilian Ministry of Health also just released their very own mobile app. The purpose of this app is to track and map out the symptoms and confirmed cases of the Zika virus. With an estimated 500,000 foreigners traveling to Brazil for the Olympics, the app will hopefully help curb the spread of the disease.

There were also apps developed to help travelers manage their finances. Visa partnered with Swatch to make an NFC-enabled watch. Wearable tech is increasing in popularity – this piece of technology will allow users to preload specific amounts of money onto their device and pay with the tap of their wrist.
